Mayhew Animal Home

The Mayhew Animal Home is one of the most effective animal welfare organisations in London, reaching thousands of dogs and cats to escape a life of abandonment, neglect and cruelty each year.

More than just a rescue and rehoming centre, The Mayhew strives to tackle the companion animal welfare crisis through the delivery of a number of community-based outreach programmes.

The Mayhew has volunteering opportunities in animal care, events, animal fostering and reception/ admin roles.

The Mayhew is seeking enthusiastic, responsible and confident Volunteer Ambassadors to assist in raising awareness and vital funds.

Community Ambassadors will play a key role in helping The Mayhew to meet its strategic objective of increasing awareness and understanding of its work within the community.

Role Aim:

Duties: 

Raising Awareness

- To attend community events on our behalf to provide information to the public on the work carried out by The Mayhew

- To give talks to local groups and organisations (you will be provided with necessary equipment)

- Promoting fundraising campaigns and events

- Promoting animals currently up for adoption

- To raise awareness of the work that The Mayhew Animal Home carries out, to gain support, educate, and promote initiatives e.g. Community outreach programs such as Trap, Neuter, Return, TheraPaws, Community Vet Clinic as well as our International Work

Raising Funds

- To raise money for The Mayhew via collection of donations at events

- Placing collection boxes in your community

Customer Service

- To acknowledge all members of the public and respond to their questions/needs

- To promote the stated objectives and policies of The Mayhew, avoiding personal opinion if this is inconsistent with Mayhew policy

Feedback

- To provide feedback to the Fundraising Officer about how well the event went, and where things could be improved

Skills needed: 

- Good communication skills

- Confident in responding to questions from an audience (note: we will supply Q&As)

- Excellent customer service skills.

- Trustworthy and reliable.

- Proactive - always looking to promote the objectives of The Mayhew and promoting sales of merchandise.

- Ability to work in a team and take instruction well.

- Responsible and professional attitude.

- A commitment to the work of The Mayhew and our policies and ethics.

This role involves varied environments, including indoor and outdoor locations. Applicants should be able to go periods without sitting down, in all weather conditions. Applicants should be able to speak to members of the public with ease.

Training: 

- We will hold an information session about the role of Volunteer Ambassadors where you can find out more, and meet the team

- A full Volunteer Ambassador pack including information about the charity, the role and a presentation - among other things to help you carry out your role

- Regular catch ups with your Mayhew contact about how things are going

- Updates from the charity about our work

Location: 
Trenmar Gardens, Kensal Green London NW10 6BJ
Time commitment: 
1-5 hours per week
Opening times: 
Ad-hoc, events are usually on weekends Long term commitment
