Holborn Community Association

Holborn Community Association (HCA) is a community anchor organisation based in central London which aims to encourage community integration, increase opportunities for local people and reduce social and economic inequalities in our community. At our three centres we provide activities and services to the residents of Holborn and the surrounding areas. Older Peoples services are based at Millman Street Resource Centre. Sport/fitness and under 5’s play activities are run out of Bedford House. Arts and Crafts take place at 1A-Arts Centre.

Healthy Living Volunteers Wanted! Help improve the health and wellbeing of older people by taking part in fun physical activates at our friendly community centre. We are looking for caring, reliable people to encourage and facilitate older people to join in with games and activities as part of our Healthy Living Program.

The role will be to provide support to our Healthy Living Support Worker in the provision of Healthy Living activities i.e. table tennis, yoga, boccia, walking groups, chair based exercises, dance workshops and outdoor activities; by joining in, encouraging and facilitating participation by our members.

Role Aim: 

We run a range of activities to stimulate and inspire older people socially and culturally to improve their emotional and physical well-being.

As a Healthy Living Volunteer, you would play a key role in reducing loneliness and improving the quality of life of older people living in the Holborn area.

Duties: 

The role will be to provide support to our Healthy Living Support Worker in the provision of Healthy Living activities i.e. table tennis, yoga, boccia, walking groups, chair based exercises, dance workshops and outdoor activities; by joining in, encouraging and facilitating participation by our members.

The role will be based mainly at our Millman Street Centre and occasionally off site.

Skills needed: 

The main skill we need from our Healthy Living Volunteer is clearly demonstrated enthusiasm for our Healthy Living programme and its benefits.

In addition, we love our volunteers to be:

• Friendly, welcoming and empowering with good communication skills

• Observant and sensitive to the needs of others

• Willing and able to support others to participate in activities

• Reliable, punctual and well-organised

• Able to work independently with guidance and support

• Comfortable working with people as individuals or in small groups

• Able to take the lead in activities when needed

• Ability to work as part of a team

Volunteers must also be willing and able to work within HCA’s policies and procedures and to treat all people with dignity and respect.

Training: 

We provide an induction and training as required/ available

Time commitment: 
1-5 hours per week
Opening times: 
No fixed times. After training, It will depend on the volunteer’s availability.
