East London Out Project (ELOP)

ELOP is a lesbian and gay centre based in East London offering much needed support, counselling and information services to members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) communities. Services include advice & information, counselling, community safety, HIV prevention and sexual health promotion, a programme of social and support groups, training & consultation, youth & schools service and volunteering & student placements.

Our Club Mellow Programme runs weekly, daytime, fortnightly & monthly daytime, evening & weekend social & support groups, activities & events. Some groups are targeted, such as our women’s group, youth club, parent baby & toddler, and men’s groups, whilst others are mixed and open to all LGBT community members.

ELOP staff will support, train and assist you to develop the skills necessary to help you make a difference to others!

Role Aim: 

ELOP?s Club Mellow Programme runs a number of weekly, daytime, fortnightly & monthly daytime, evening & weekend social & support groups, activities & events. Some groups are targeted, such as our women’s group, youth club, parent, baby & toddler morning, men’s group etc. and others may be mixed or themed based & open for all LGBT community members. You will help to organise & facilitate group sessions, support & enable group members involvement, and help ensure an accessible & welcoming environment is provided to all those attending.

Duties: 

You will be part of a dynamic & multi-skilled team, have an opportunity to contribute to planning, development & promotion of group programmes and help to organise & facilitate group sessions.

Skills needed: 

Friendly & outgoing personality, good communication skills, understanding of the issues facing members of the LGBT communities and ability to work in a way that respects diversity, ability to work as part of a team, ability to work within organisational policies and procedures, and an understanding of the need for boundaries and confidentiality.

Training: 

All volunteers are inducted to the organisation as standard and provided with any additional training and support relevant for the role

Location: 
At the ELOP Centre and, for certain groups at other venues in London
Time commitment: 
At least one day per week. At least 12 months.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday
