Opportunity: Access Art Project Promoter

Gain valuable voluntary experience whilst promoting a project which aims to support young people in accessing and engaging with art. Access Art is seeking a one-off Volunteer to help recruit short term volunteers at the New Year Volunteering Fair. If you want to support an Arts project locally, without committing too much time then this is the opportunity for you. Through this role you will be indirectly supporting children and young people gain confidence accessing and understanding art as well as encouraging a lifelong love of art, museums and galleries. This role will provide the opportunity to work on your marketing/presentation skills and practice negotiating/influencing others.


Opportunity: English conversation partners needed for international students

We are looking for English conversation partners to help international students improve their English communication skills. You will be working with international students who are studying at the UCL Centre for Languages & International Education on a 3 or 4 week English language and British culture course. The students are keen to communicate in English and meet UCL students.

The ‘Cultural Exchanges’ will be held on a Wednesday afternoon January to March. You may join just for one time or come to as many as you would like to.

Help raise funds and awareness for Target Ovarian Cancer! We are currently looking for volunteers to join us as bucket collectors at Euston station on World Cancer Day, 4 February 2020.


Opportunity: Event Volunteer for February 6, 2020 (Music & Literature Fundraising Event)

On February 6, 2020, United Way UK will host its annual event to raise funds for the Reading Oasis, an early childhood literacy programme which builds new libraries in disadvantaged schools and puts books into the hands of children that lack reading resources.

The event will be carried out in a unique concert hall in central London. It will be an evening of music and literature and will include an intimate performance by an incredible American pianist.

United Way UK is looking for volunteers to carry out different tasks in the Reading Oasis event, including assisting with logistics on the event’s day, providing a warm, friendly welcome to all guests, providing information, and other similar tasks.

This is a great chance to:
- work in a friendly team, to make new friends and meet a diverse group of people.
- develop your confidence and interpersonal skills.
- gain valuable work experience to add onto your CV and to learn new skills
- make an invaluable contribution to the Reading Oasis programme’s goal of inspiring children’s love for reading

Opportunity: February Half Term Family Event

The Salters’ Company is a vibrant organisation eager to engage families, schools and adults.
For this event we are exploring what is at the core of our charity work- science.
Working with ‘Sphere Science’ on Tuesday 18 February we will be inviting families to partake in mini experiments which will capture their imagination.
From designing their own lava lamps, writing with and discovering the scientific secret behind invisible ink to making grapes dance by changing the density of water these activities will capture the inner scientist in children and adults alike.
You will be engaging the families helping them to leave excited about science and The Salters’ Company. But don’t worry, you don’t have to be a scientist to volunteer for this day. If you love meeting new people, learning and being part of a team then this is the role for you- and you will have a chance to try your hand at the activities after you have a full briefing on them on the day.


Opportunity: Walkie Talkie Tower Climb 2020

On 29 February, 20 Fenchurch Street will be home to another amazing Walkie Talkie Tower Climb, all in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity). Hundreds of fundraisers will be taking on the challenge of climbing 896 steps over 36 floors, reaching the iconic Sky Garden for a celebratory drink and spectacular views across London. We are looking for volunteers to help out with various roles, making sure the event is once again a success!


Opportunity: Diabetes UK Fundraising Events Volunteer - London Landmarks Half Marathon

We need your help! Come and join Diabetes UK for our first London-based event of the year: the quirky, vibrant and exciting London Landmarks Half Marathon. This year, we’ve got 229 runners supporting the charity, and we need your loudest voices and biggest smiles to cheer them to the finishing line.

When? Sunday, 29 March between 10:00 and 14:00

Where? There are two options:

- Mile 5.5 (Chancery Lane/Carew Street) Situated right outside the Knights Templar pub, we’ll have a brass band grooving away to keep those runners moving.
- Mile 11 (Upper Thames Street) – With two miles left, this is where the runners really need us to shout their name, wave our bang sticks and to motivate them over the final hurdle

You’ll be provided with a Diabetes UK T-shirt, bang bang sticks, crazy hair and refreshments.

And to celebrate all the pioneering research that Diabetes UK support, we’ll be dressing up at our Mile 11 cheer point as scientists. Think lab coats, stethoscopes, crazy hair and glasses! Borrow some fancy dress items, bring your own or just morally support those who dress up in costume.

Bring a friend, make a day of it and enjoy one of London’s greatest running events up close and personal!


Opportunity: London Marathon Cheer Squad Volunteers

Be part of one of the UK’s biggest sporting events and join Mencap, the Official Charity Partner for 2020, at the Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday April 26.

Mencap will have nearly 600 runners fundraising over £2000 each to change the lives of people with a learning disability, with this year’s fundraising going towards our All Move project, bringing together children with and without learning disabilities through sport.

We want to get as many people as possible to support those with a learning disability and be a part of our ‘movement for change’, showcasing how amazing people with learning disability are and raising awareness on this huge world stage. We have 15 runners who have a learning disability taking on the colossal task of running 26.2 mile and it is very important that we give them the support they need to get over the finish line!

It’s an electric atmosphere where huge crowds gather to support the 40,000 people running through the streets of London, and we need you to join us at one of our cheer points to support them.


Opportunity: London Marathon Cheering Squad

We’re looking for cheerful and enthusiastic volunteers to come and support our amazing runners doing the London Marathon. You will be working alongside members of the Breast Cancer Haven team and other volunteers, cheering on the runners and creating a positive atmosphere for everyone taking part. We will set up a cheer station on Jamaica Road round the corner from Bermondsey station, and will spend the day watching all the action from the front row. Timings are flexible and whatever time you can give is greatly appreciated.


Opportunity: MoonWalk

Event Volunteer Superstars Needed!

Are you a dedicated and organised person, passionate about helping others? Join our night-time party and 2,000 other volunteers at The MoonWalk London on Saturday 16 May 2020 from Clapham Common! Get down and boogie with 15,000 woman and men walking an overnight marathon in decorated bras, raising millions for breast cancer!

We recruit thousands of volunteers to make The MoonWalk a safe and enjoyable event; looking after our walkers at busy crossings, keeping them hydrated and above all giving the encouragement they need to complete their epic challenge.

You could spend your Saturday evening in MoonWalk City, Clapham by joining one of 24 different teams, from around 17:00 through to midnight – from litter picking to selling merchandise, registering baggage to handing out volunteer uniforms!

The night time is where the challenge really gets going for our amazing walkers. If you like the nightlife, marshalling or giving out water whilst surrounded by London’s famous landmarks could be for you! Start times vary between 20:00 and Midnight, depending on your role, and last on average 8 hours. We can also offer site based roles at MoonWalk City throughout the night. Early finishes can be requested.

Finally, the early morning team take the helm on Sunday 17 May, starting between 5:00 - 6:00 until midday. Watching the sunrise against a London skyline is quite a sight to see! This truly is the most testing time for our walkers…whether you join the route or MoonWalk City teams…your kind and motivating words could be all that is needed to get someone across that finish line!

On the night you will be provided with training, a t-shirt, cap and free light refreshments. All roles will develop teamwork and confidence, no matter what you do on the night…so why not bring your friends and family along to share this unique experience!

Are you irritated by the excessive amount of litter laying around the streets of London? Do you want to do something to help whilst raising awareness on littering?​

Then this project is for you! As a Green Walker volunteer, you will be joining us to our monthly litter-picking walks. As a team, we will work together to pick up litter around UCL an afternoon every month. You will be briefed before the walks and will be provided with all necessary equipment - so don't worry if you haven't done it before! You will be working with a group of UCL students from all ages. This will be an opportunity to contribute to reduce the high levels of waste in the big city of London in a new, fun way. The walks will also give you the chance to get to know other volunteers that are interested in environmental issues! Refreshments will be provided during breaks and socials will be organised after each walk.
