Academic Mentor

Organisation: 

Oaklands School is an 11-19 school with a small but well established sixth form in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

The majority of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and are often in receipt of Free School Meals, as well as the 16-19 Bursary. Despite this, a large number of them aspire to continue onto higher education.

Enfield Peer Educator

Organisation: 

The Health Promotion team in Enfield are looking for a volunteer to help provide information and support around HIV prevention to individuals to communities in Enfield.

The right volunteer will help the team to:

• Provide short, factual presentations on HIV and/or the Terrence Higgins Trust.

• Run outreach stalls, both as a team, and independently to engage members of the community to take an HIV test

• Visiting barber shops and salons to run outreach sessions

Legal Affairs Intern

The Afghanistan & Central Asian Association (ACAA) is a successful frontline Afghan charity set up in 2001 and is now providing an opportunity for a law student or graduate to take up a place in the charity working with refugees and migrants in the UK. The successful applicant will become the Legal Team Leader and be responsible for the running of the ACAA’s free bi-monthly legal clinic, alongside other volunteer tasks. This role would particularly suit a law graduate with an interest in family and immigration law.

Women Economic Empowerment Executive x 8

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers for Women Economic Empowerment executive roles (WEE-Executives) to support our ‘Women Economic Empowerment Projects’.

You will be working to empower a group of women in Uganda by raising funds to invest in their small businesses to help generate income and break poverty cycle.

You will gain an insight of how you can empower a person from a point of hopelessness to successful entrepreneur at as little as £50!

Bengali/Sylheti Speaking Befriender

You could make a huge difference to the life of a lonely older person if you have just an hour or so to spare each week.

We are looking for caring, reliable people to visit isolated Bangladeshi Elders living in the Holborn area; providing company, friendship and a link to the wider community.

Volunteer Tour Guide

Organisation: 

At Oaklands School, we passionately believe that students should be exposed to a wide range of cultural opportunities. Living in Tower Hamlets, one of the most deprived boroughs in the country, many of our students lack the cultural capital of other young people. Many of our students have not been to many museums and therefore part of our enrichment program involves taking them to museums and showing them how to engage with the exhibits.

IT Teacher

We help improve the quality of life of disabled Spanish and Portuguese speaking people from Latin America, Europe and Africa living in London. For people with little access to services in the capital our aim is to work with their carers, families and communities, improving their quality of life, putting an end to isolation and to support community integration. Our mission is to teach our users basic computer skills so we are looking for volunteers able to commit a minimum of 1 or 2 days per week (3-4 hours) for at least 3 months to provide 1-on-1 computer lessons.

Volunteer Befriender

Henna Asian Women’s Group is opening their Befriending service to all individuals that are in need for extra help to improve their social circle. We will reach out to the most vulnerable individuals that live in any Borough of London.

Henna volunteers will pay regular weekly visits to clients and support them into taking steps to come out of the home and access different services.

The Befriending service does not include shopping, cooking, cleaning the individual’s home or bathing/changing the individual or their family members.

Redbridge HIV Prevention Volunteer

Organisation: 

To support the Redbridge HIV prevention team by engaging with individuals and communities in Redbridge to promote the importance of HIV testing and safer sex and signposting services.

Desirable skills and experience

- Ability to engage effectively with Black African or MSM communities

- Excellent communication and active listening skills

- A basic understanding of the issues relating to HIV and AIDS, or willingness to learn

Commitment: Minimum 6 month commitment

Location: Various locations around Redbridge.

Chinese Information and Advice Centre (CIAC) provides free information, advice and support to disadvantaged Chinese people in our community living in the UK. This includes supporting women and children who are victims, or at risk of domestic violence, and advice on issues such as welfare and benefit, immigration, asylum and homelessness.
