Volunteer Mentor

The Chinese National Healthy Living Centre is a registered charity that promotes healthy living and facilitates access to health services for the Chinese community in the UK.

We are looking for volunteers to assist in the delivery of our Chinese Mentoring and Befriending Service.

Volunteers will be trained to provide emotional support and practical help to Westminster Chinese residents who are going through a difficult time in their lives but who are not mental health service users.

Our BAME Health Promotion team have launched a new project that is focused to improving sexual health outcomes for BAME men who have sex with men (MSM). The team are looking for three vibrant, energetic volunteers who have in interest in Sexual Health and HIV to support the team’s activities throughout 2018.

Women's Support Volunteer/ General Volunteer

Can you speak good English and Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese)? Are you eager to help the disadvantaged people in our community? Come and join us!

Chinese Information and Advice Centre (CIAC) provides free information, advice and support to disadvantaged Chinese people in our community living in the UK. This includes supporting women and children who are victims, or at risk of domestic violence, and advice on issues such as welfare and benefit, immigration, asylum and homelessness.

Are you interested in Brazil and Children’s Rights’ ABC Trust currently supports 8 projects in Brazil, such as the Crescer e Viver’s social circus project, or the Cinema Nosso animation project among others - all working to protect and empower children and teenagers in vulnerable situations.

Redbridge HIV Prevention Volunteer


To support the Redbridge HIV prevention team by engaging with individuals and communities in Redbridge to promote the importance of HIV testing and safer sex and signposting services.

Desirable skills and experience

- Ability to engage effectively with Black African or MSM communities

- Excellent communication and active listening skills

- A basic understanding of the issues relating to HIV and AIDS, or willingness to learn

Commitment: Minimum 6 month commitment

Location: Various locations around Redbridge.


The Chinese National Healthy Living Centre (CNHLC) is offering volunteers the opportunity to befriend an elderly person in their local community. This is part of a campaign to raise support and awareness for Chinese people with Dementia. Volunteers will need to be able to set aside at least 2 hours per month for 10 months minimum. Travel costs will be reimbursed. Chinese speaking skills would be preferable.

Enrich the List Volunteer

Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust and Historic England are looking for 20 volunteers interested in community, heritage, or the build environment to take part in a short project that will tell the stories of local buildings and what they mean to them.

The project will be run over 3 weeks and involve 3 workshops and some independent field work. It will give you the fantastic chance to develop transferable skills of teamwork, research skills, creative, communication and digital media skills which will look great on any job or university application.

Bengali/Sylheti Speaking Befriender

You could make a huge difference to the life of a lonely older person if you have just an hour or so to spare each week.

We are looking for caring, reliable people to visit isolated Bangladeshi Elders living in the Holborn area; providing company, friendship and a link to the wider community.

LRMN is a charity organisation providing free services to refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in London. We have 3 main programmes namely: Information and Advice on Immigration, Housing and Welfare; Violence against Women and Girls and Training and Employment. In addition to the main programmes, we run activities which include English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Literacy, Knitting and Sewing classes. LRMN is an active organisation with clients coming from a range of background and nationalities.

Volunteer Befriender

Henna Asian Women’s Group is opening their Befriending service to all individuals that are in need for extra help to improve their social circle. We will reach out to the most vulnerable individuals that live in any Borough of London.

Henna volunteers will pay regular weekly visits to clients and support them into taking steps to come out of the home and access different services.

The Befriending service does not include shopping, cooking, cleaning the individual’s home or bathing/changing the individual or their family members.

IT Teacher

We help improve the quality of life of disabled Spanish and Portuguese speaking people from Latin America, Europe and Africa living in London. For people with little access to services in the capital our aim is to work with their carers, families and communities, improving their quality of life, putting an end to isolation and to support community integration. Our mission is to teach our users basic computer skills so we are looking for volunteers able to commit a minimum of 1 or 2 days per week (3-4 hours) for at least 3 months to provide 1-on-1 computer lessons.

Academic Mentor


Oaklands School is an 11-19 school with a small but well established sixth form in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

The majority of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and are often in receipt of Free School Meals, as well as the 16-19 Bursary. Despite this, a large number of them aspire to continue onto higher education.

Dementia Friends

Chinese speaking volunteers needed

Chinese National Healthy Living Centre based in central London seeks volunteers to join its volunteer team for monthly home visits and workshops in order to befriend and help people living with dementia or people having early signs of dementia symptoms. Candidates must be able to speak Chinese (Cantonese is essential, Mandarin and Hakka desirable).

Roma Oral History Project Volunteer


The Roma Support Group is currently looking for a number of Roma Oral History Project Volunteers, who will support the Roma Oral History Researchers in recording and archiving Roma people’s oral histories, co-organising educational workshops, creating educational materials based on recorded oral histories and promoting the project.

Enfield Peer Educator


The Health Promotion team in Enfield are looking for a volunteer to help provide information and support around HIV prevention to individuals to communities in Enfield.

The right volunteer will help the team to:

• Provide short, factual presentations on HIV and/or the Terrence Higgins Trust.

• Run outreach stalls, both as a team, and independently to engage members of the community to take an HIV test

• Visiting barber shops and salons to run outreach sessions

Befriending Visitor

The Chinese National Healthy Living Centre is located in Soho (near Chinatown) and is a charity providing health-related services to London’s Chinese community. We have various projects currently e.g., Mental health counselling, Gambling Addiction counselling, Hep B clinic, Sunday doctors, Tai-Chi class, Walk-to-Health, Dementia Awareness & Support and so on. We hold workshops, Reminiscence Tea Houses, training for carers, and we carry out befriending home visits.

Bengali Speaking Befriending Volunteer

Are you Bengali or Hindi speaking and interested in befriending an older Bangladeshi woman living locally to UCL? We are looking for someone who is available to help out once a week for a couple of hours by assisting one of our members to go out for a walk or to the shops. Most importantly you must be able to offer some company and the opportunity to speak in Bengali or Hindi.
