Revitalise

Revitalise is a national charity that has been providing respite holidays for disabled people and carers for over 50 years. We have three Revitalise centres, in Chigwell in Essex, Southampton and Southport, each providing a wide range of accessible activities, excursions and entertainment.

We are very lucky to have dedicated volunteers, who provide companionship and support to our guests, ensuring they have a truly unforgettable holiday and we would love you to join them. We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds from the age of 16 and our roles provide a valuable opportunity for young adults to learn important social skills, build confidence and make a positive impact. No experience is necessary so our varying levels of training mean our roles are suitable for students of any degree background; for students undertaking studies in areas of care or nursing and want to gain specific experience or those who simply want to try something new. We also provide assessments for students and references on request.

Role Aim:

Revitalise is a national charity that has been providing respite holidays for disabled people and carers for over 50 years. We have three Revitalise centres; in Chigwell in Essex, Southampton and Southport, each providing a wide range of accessible activities, excursions and entertainment.

We are very lucky to have dedicated volunteers, who provide companionship and support to our guests, ensuring they have a truly unforgettable holiday and we would love you to join them. Our volunteers form a crucial part of the Revitalise team and our guests always tell us that a big part of what makes their holiday so special are the volunteers.

Our Care Support Volunteers provide companionship and social support to our guests and also provide basic care.

Duties:

Our Care Support volunteers usually stay with us for between 1 month to a year.

The social support elements of this role means activities like chatting with guests at meal times, making teas or coffees, enjoying the evening entertainment with guests and accompanying them on daily excursions to local sites alongside our staff. It also includes supporting with guests’ mobility and assisting with eating and drinking. Our volunteers also support in the dining room with serving breakfast, washing up after dinner and laying the tables for the next day, but done as part of a team this doesn’t take long!

What about the basic care element? If you are staying up to three months, you can choose to receive training in certain aspects of care such as how to assist our more independent guests with tasks such as brushing teeth, doing their hair and getting dressed. If you are staying any longer then you can receive training in more aspects of healthcare work and how to provide higher levels of care to our guests if you choose. It is up to you how far you progress with the training and the speed at which you would like to complete the elements; there is no time pressure to complete any part.

Skills needed:

No previous experience is necessary and you will receive a thorough induction and training on your arrival. The only things we ask for are for our volunteers to be friendly, so they can provide a warm and memorable holiday for our guests, and to have a competent level of English to be able to support our guests and follow safety procedures.

This role will suit you if you are friendly, enjoy meeting new people and have a passion for our cause.

Training:

You will focus on the purely social and companionship elements of the role for your first two weeks as you settle in and then, if you choose, you can receive training in providing higher levels of care. This training is carried out on a 1:1 basis and you can progress at a pace that works for you. There is no time pressure for progression and if you wanted to volunteer with us again, you can pick up from where you left off the last time you were with us!

Location:
One of our three centres; in Chigwell- Essex, Southport and Southampton
Time commitment:
At least one day per week
Opening times:
This role is a residential role. Although volunteers live and work in one of our centres for the duration of their stay, there is plenty of opportunity for breaks during the day and volunteers also have days off from volunteering duties during this time. Care Support Volunteers stay with us from 1month to a year and the placements begin on Saturdays throughout the year.
