One Housing Group

We support vulnerable people access the wider community with confidence and self-confidence, we recruit volunteers to support us to achieve this goal. We work with people living with; mental health issues, drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness, older and young people and families.

Would you like to make a difference in a vulnerable person’s life, if yes, you are welcome to volunteer with One Support. We offer a number of volunteering roles for you and if you have an expertise creative, music, sports you are welcome to volunteer, you will really help our people access the community and achieve their goals.

Role Aim: 

To act as a befriender to vulnerable One Support customers. To undertake regular visits or outings and to help address social isolation, loss of confidence and to build motivation. Befrienders will meet with the customer on a regular basis either for a chat in their home or to share a social activity, such as walking, attending museums, art galleries, cinema, etc. The activities will be agreed with the customer, Support Officer and volunteer beforehand

* Accompanying customers to social events and leisure and fitness facilities in the community as a befriender

* Supporting customers to arrange social events

* Encouraging participation in hobbies and interests

* Visiting socially isolated individuals

Skills needed: 

Key Skills, Knowledge Base and Experience

* A positive regard of vulnerable people

* Understanding of diversity, confidentiality, and boundaries

* To be reliable and trustworthy

* Health and Safety including lone working

Special interests and activities - (desirable)

* Skills, knowledge and experience of special interests e.g. cooking, arts, music, sport

and fitness, languages, dancing, computers, pet care, DIY etc.,


Safeguarding, Diversity Cultural Awareness, DWP Welfare Benefit Training, Motivational Training amongst others

Time commitment: 
1-5 hours per week
Opening times: 
Minimum of 2 hours a week, although more are available if desired. This is for a minimum of 3 months and days are flexible.
