Helpline Volunteer

Calling all good listeners interested in mental health!

OCD Action relies on the dedication of volunteers to make sure that we are there to help people in need and that our message can get out. Our team of Helpline volunteers respond to calls on our helpline and the emails we receive asking for support. Helpline volunteers need to be able to travel to Central London (Islington) for their initial training and for their on-going work on the Helpline.

Senior Shop Volunteer

Our busy and successful shop on Camden Road sells entirely donated goods whose profits provide important income for Mind in Camden. It is not part of a national chain and all the income goes to Mind in Camden.

We are looking for a Senior Volunteer to help run the shop and to take responsibility when the manager is absent.

Befriender

The Chinese National Healthy Living Centre (CNHLC) is offering volunteers the opportunity to befriend an elderly person in their local community. This is part of a campaign to raise support and awareness for Chinese people with Dementia. Volunteers will need to be able to set aside at least 2 hours per month for 10 months minimum. Travel costs will be reimbursed. Chinese speaking skills would be preferable.

We have four housing schemes in London and our office is based at our largest scheme, Sir Oswald Stoll Mansions, in the Fulham Road Apart from providing housing, we also provide support services, to ensure that Veterans are equipped to live independently.

The Holy Cross Centre Trusts (HCCT) is an independent, secular organisation founded in 1988. We work with marginalised and vulnerable adults across London, and we pride ourselves in doing things differently.

We are looking for general volunteers to work at a Mental Health Wellbeing centre in Swiss Cottage where people who suffer from mental health issues attend.

The role is to provide emotional and practical support to clients, as well as to support the logistics through cooking, cleaning and offering administrative support if required.

Befriending Volunteer

Help your local community by Befriending older people in their homes. These people are often housebound and because of this have become lonely and isolated from society. This will involve telephoning and visiting someone in their home or supporting them to get out of the house. The person you visit may have a physical impairment; dementia; or mental health difficulties. This is something you can do weekdays, weekends, or evenings.

Healthy Minds Volunteer Navigator

Playscheme Volunteer

Organisation: 

Time to play! We are looking for some great volunteers who can dedicate a minimum of one week to help at Markfield’s summer playscheme for children with disabilities.

We have a fantastic, wild adventure playground and indoor play facilities on site. Typically a playscheme can include: soft play, ball games (we have a goal and a basketball hoop); adventure play; zip wire; junk modelling; cooking; art & craft; building bonfires; den-making; water fights and lots more.

Volunteer befriender

Santé supports refugees and asylum seekers who have social care/ health issues. Befrienders will help people to link to services, rebuild confidence, overcome practical problems such as language barriers, and better understand UK culture.

No qualifications are needed although we require a DBS check to ensure you are eligible to work with vulnerable adults. Befrienders need to be accepting, caring, good listeners and assertive.

Ability to speak a refugee language is useful but not essential. Training and support will be provided.

Skills for Work Adviser

Do you speak Spanish? Would you like to help Spanish speakers overcome the language barrier to find work in London and avoid exploitation? Latin American Disabled People’s Project is looking for Skills for Work advisers to volunteer one morning a week (Friday or Wednesday 10am - 1.30pm). Training is provided.

LADPP provides important services for disabled and non-disabled Spanish and Portuguese speakers living in London, helping them access services, live independently and decrease the risk of isolation.

Volunteer Mentor

The Chinese National Healthy Living Centre is a registered charity that promotes healthy living and facilitates access to health services for the Chinese community in the UK.

We are looking for volunteers to assist in the delivery of our Chinese Mentoring and Befriending Service.

Volunteers will be trained to provide emotional support and practical help to Westminster Chinese residents who are going through a difficult time in their lives but who are not mental health service users.

Dementia Befriending Volunteer

Organisation: 

Visiting someone living with dementia or memory loss is very rewarding. We are looking for people who can commit to making a weekly visit to someone for a year, to help alleviate isolation and keep these older people engaged with their communities. People live all over Camden, so a willingness to travel is necessary.

Completion of on-line training in Dementia Awareness is a prerequisite to becoming a befriender.

Other training is provided and out of pocket expenses are reimbursed.

Phoenix Wellbeing & Recovery Volunteers

The Phoenix Recovery Volunteers provide various forms of support to members of our Phoenix Service to assist and promote their recovery. They work alongside paid Senior Recovery Workers, Specialist Sessional Contractors and other volunteers. The Phoenix service is based in the heart of Camden Town.

Befriending Visitor

The Chinese National Healthy Living Centre is located in Soho (near Chinatown) and is a charity providing health-related services to London’s Chinese community. We have various projects currently e.g., Mental health counselling, Gambling Addiction counselling, Hep B clinic, Sunday doctors, Tai-Chi class, Walk-to-Health, Dementia Awareness & Support and so on. We hold workshops, Reminiscence Tea Houses, training for carers, and we carry out befriending home visits.

Peer Mentor
