Befriender Volunteer


Would you like to make a difference in a vulnerable person’s life, if yes, you are welcome to volunteer with One Support. We offer a number of volunteering roles for you and if you have an expertise creative, music, sports you are welcome to volunteer, you will really help our people access the community and achieve their goals.

Opportunity: Day-Centre Volunteer

We are looking for general volunteers to work at a Mental Health Wellbeing centre in Swiss Cottage where people who suffer from mental health issues attend.

Opportunity: Get Set to Go Volunteer Sports Navigator

Get Set to Go is a project aimed at supporting people experiencing mental health issues to link up with community sports resources to help them achieve their fitness and wellbeing goals.

Opportunity: Primary School Activities Volunteer

Volunteering at UP aims to provide children with emotional and behavioural difficulties access to a positive, supportive adult role model. Volunteers help children to identify their skills and talents and give them a chance to reach their potential. Volunteers offer children new experiences and a chance for them to have fun!

Opportunity: Social Prescribing Link Worker

The Social Prescribing Service works in partnership with community providers in Camden to deliver easily and accessible one-to-one support to Camden residents with mental health issues, who are referred by GPs in order to identify and access community facilities/activities to aid their recovery.

Using the Motivational Interviewing approach we engage people over 8 sessions (including 2 initial assessments) to identify their needs, goals and community resources to assist with meeting and achieving these. This approach enables people to set their goals and own their process on what is meaningful to them. This new service will have MIND in Camden embedded within the Assessment Team offering a direct route to Social Prescribing in the community. The aim is to work with people who have social needs which are best supported through linking with community resources rather than statutory services.

Home for Good is an exciting, volunteer powered pan-London project. We aim to reduce the isolation that clients often experience when they are resettled, and thereby reduce the number of people who abandon their accommodation and return to the streets. Through the involvement of volunteers, the service empowers clients to put down roots and thrive in their new communities.

Phoenix Wellbeing & Recovery Volunteers


Interested in supporting people who are experiencing mental distress’ Do you have an open mind and a keen interest in mental health and wellbeing? This could be the role for you.

The Phoenix Recovery Volunteers provide various forms of support to members of our Phoenix Service to assist and promote their recovery. They work alongside paid Senior Recovery Workers, Specialist Sessional Contractors and other volunteers. The Phoenix service is based in the heart of Camden Town.

Opportunity: Befriender Volunteer

To act as a befriender to vulnerable One Support customers. To undertake regular visits or outings and to help address social isolation, loss of confidence and to build motivation. Befrienders will meet with the customer on a regular basis either for a chat in their home or to share a social activity, such as walking, attending museums, art galleries, cinema, etc. The activities will be agreed with the customer, Support Officer and volunteer beforehand

Opportunity: Dementia Befriender

Volunteer befrienders offer social contact to people with memory loss and/or a diagnosis of dementia. People living with memory loss/dementia can become very isolated and begin to lose touch with friends and family. Support and companionship from a volunteer can greatly improve their health and emotional well-being!

A placement with us is an opportunity to work directly with a diverse client group, make a significant impact, and learn about the changing landscape of mental health and social care, and voluntary and community services.

To provide a befriending service for children in the Camden area who have mental and physical disabilities and to provide them with opportunities that they may otherwise not have access to. This also enables parents to have a small amount of respite, so it is for the benefit of the children, parents, and you as volunteers!

The Healthy Minds Community Programme helps Camden residents reconnect with the community through a range of free courses, workshops and activities. If you are passionate about supporting people who are struggling with their mental health to live fun and fulfilling lives then this is a great opportunity for you. You will develop your own skills whilst helping someone else to become a part of their community.

Opportunity: Frontline Adult Support Volunteer

You will be supporting in our weekly Adult Service (30+) which is a resource for support, information, encouragement and change. Our members can benefit from services including counselling, legal advice and complementary therapies to workshops on the latest HIV treatment, nutrition advice, managing stress, relationships and wider health issues.

Opportunity: Phoenix Wellbeing & Recovery Volunteers

Phoenix is an enhanced support space offering a range of timetabled, co-produced activities, peer support, goal setting, access to counselling and therapy as well as individual practical, emotional and crisis support, subsidised meals, special events and trips.

Phoenix Recovery volunteers are essential to make this a welcoming and friendly service. There may be opportunities to participate in one-to-one support including key working and befriending once you are an established volunteer.

Our busy and successful shop on Camden Road sells entirely donated goods whose profits provide important income for Mind in Camden. It is not part of a national chain and all the income goes to Mind in Camden. The shop is run by a team of volunteers supported by a Shop Manager. We are looking for reliable volunteers to help run the shop.
