London University Rugby 7's Festival

Wednesday, 25 April 2018 - 12:00pm to 5:00pm

Introducing the London University 7’s festival that will be held at Richmond Rugby club on Wednesday 25th April. The festival will be open to both men’s and women’s teams with UCL, Kings, GKT, RUMS, Alumni and a handful of other select London universities expected to enter teams.

Engaging the community through Rugby

On 26th February and 5th March UCL Men’s rugby visited Chislehurst Sixth form and Chislehurst School for girls to inform and inspire their year 12 and year 7 students.

They first spoke to 70 Year 12 students; sharing their experiences on preparing for university, choosing the right university and how to navigate the first year as a university student. The sixth form students then broke out into smaller groups for a Q&A with the UCLRFC members.

UCLU Women's Rugby are BUCS team of the year

UCLU Women’s Rugby last week recieved the award for Team of the Year at the British Universities & Colleges Sports (BUCS) awards. This is the second year in a row that Women’s Rugby have made it to the final selection for Team of the Year, narrowly missing out last year.

Double win in rugby leads UCL to Varsity Series victory

Women’s UCL 10-7 KCL

Men’s UCL 16-9 KCL

Please see the London Varsity Series website for full results from all fixtures throughout the series.

UCLU Women’s and Men’s teams dominated their respective games against King’s College in the final evening of a sporting week, and their triumphs pushed UCLU to become the winners of London Varsity Series 2014, with a score of 8 points to 5.

Teams gear up for Varsity

UCLU men’s and women’s rugby teams will meet their opposing teams from King’s College this evening during this year’s Varsity showdown at the Twickenham Stoop.

Defending their 2011 victory, UCLU Women’s Rugby captain Eleanor Trezise commented that, “We’ve had a fantastic season so far - our best yet in fact - and with King’s women’s side looking stronger than ever too we look forward to a tougher match than last year with the best team coming out on top”.

The London Varsity- Statement

After a period of consultation between UCL Union and KCLSU it is with regret that the decision has been made not to go ahead with the traditional rugby matches between UCL and KCL under the banner of The London Varsity as a result of incidents and behaviour at the 2012 event.

Representatives from both institutions have taken this decision in an attempt to protect the safety of the student body and the reputation of both Unions.

RFU President's XV Awards 2012

Today 15 rugby clubs across the country have been named as the 2012 winners of the RFU President’s XV Awards, supported by QBE. The winning club in each of the 15 categories will receive £500.

The Awards, supported by QBE, Official Insurance Partner of England Rugby, were launched in October last year by RFU President Willie Wildash, 2003 Rugby World Cup winner Joe Worsley and England Women’s star Maggie Alphonsi.  Winners have been chosen by a panel of judges who sought to identify and reward initiatives that promote the development of rugby at a grassroots level.

Tonight's Rugby showdown to decide Varsity winners

Following a tremendous victory for both women’s and men’s teams in Thursday night’s Fencing fixture, UCLU now lead the series 6-5 heading into the last day. This evening the women’s and men’s teams will meet in the rugby finale from 5pm, and UCLU need to win just one match to take us to 7 points and win the series.

Meeting in Allianz Park, the women’s match kicks off at 5pm, and the men’s at 7.30pm. Steeped in competitive history and with all still to play for, this is not an event to be missed.
