Students’ Union UCL represents 40,000+ students who study at the University College London, and based on our size, location and UCL’s student intake, we believe we are one of the most diverse student communities in the world. We operate with a £11m+ T/O and provide a range of services that support our students to achieve things they may never have thought possible. We are inclusive, bold and driven by the opportunity to continue to be the place where more happens.

This year we celebrate our 125th birthday and we are about to launch our next strategic plan, called 125 and Beyond, which clearly puts students at the centre of our thinking. It will be down to the Head of Operations to create physical, online and cultural environments that are fit for our fantastic membership. This is also a particularly exciting time for us as UCL expands into East London and we develop a Union presence on that campus. As our Head of Operations, you will get the once in a lifetime opportunity to lead the development of an entirely new union presence!

This is a critical leadership role and we are looking for someone who can work alongside the Chief Executive and Union’s Leadership Team, made up of senior staff and elected officers, to effectively maintain a thriving, vibrant and professional Union. You will be leading a growing professional team encompassing; people, project management, governance, systems, facilities, health and safety and commercial development, and you will have a significant budget of over £5m to deliver success across those areas.

In order to be successful in this role you will need to have experience of leading a diverse portfolio of areas/services, contributing and delivering on strategic plans, fostering innovation and driving change projects. You will also focus on continuing to develop our culture and making us a great place to work as we seek to gain Investor in People status. We are open to sector and background however, you will need to highlight your ability to operate in a complex environment and possess the political skills and acumen to develop productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including elected officials, university stakeholders and broader partners. This is a diverse role where constant change and innovation is normal, and you will need to be adaptable in your approach.
