Hi! I'm Louis, an active and enthusiastic member of the Film and TV Society. This year, I have been

involved in several FilmSoc productions: I was Director of Photography for two web series episodes and

Assistant Director for the Term 2 Film, and took part in numerous workshops and activities.

One of my priorities is to renew the FilmSoc equipment by buying a new camera, more lighting

equipment, a camera stabilizer and a small camera dolly. We will fund those purchases with the creation of

a FilmSoc festival and other fundraising events.

I want to create more collaborative workshops with other societies (DramaSoc, Writers' Society,

PhotoSoc...) because cinema is by essence at the crossroad of several disciplines. I want to truly represent

the diversity of our Society by screening more films in other languages than English.

My goal is to make the Film Society more inclusive for everyone regardless of the kind of cinema

they like. Therefore, I will also support emerging experimental filmmakers from UCL in collaboration with

the Art Society.

The Film Society has been my number one priority since my first day at UCL and I feel ready to

become its President.

I truly believe in making Film & TV Society a place where people can communicate freely about their ideas and relax. I want to see Film & TV society grow more diverse culturally and in terms of the format of film. Our society has become increasingly diverse since the past few years through collaborating frequently with other societies such as Iranian Society and CSSA. As a global society in a global university, I believe introducing our members to world cinema will open the window to a deeper understanding of film as a form of communication. I would also make the skills of film more accessible by carrying out workshops alongside supporting projects including drama, art films, documentary and vlog. I see film as a medium and language for everyone to express themselves and I would encourage our members to lead and create all kinds of work through film, no matter fictional or non-fictional.

My previous experience in film include producing, documentary making, filming art video and editing. I also have experience in acting, directing, light design for theatre and I recently completed a directing course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I believe my skills in different aspects of film will aid me to carry out my role as President and I am willing to share my joy of film-making with other people!

FilmSoc has been a massive part of my university experience, to the point where I sometimes forget that I’m actually here to get a degree, too... Throughout my three years at UCL, I’ve been actively involved in all aspects of the society – I’ve taken part in dozens of productions, produced term and affiliate films, led numerous talks and workshops, written and recorded for the Blog & Podcast, listened to guest speakers, attended screenings and socials. As last year’s Drama Producer, I organised projects such as Term Films, FemFilm, the Webseries and 48 Hour Challenges.

I would be honoured to have the opportunity to lead and shape the society next year; I want to make concrete changes and make a real difference. I have plenty of ideas, such as career advice on getting into the professional film industry, more collaborative projects and socials with other societies and universities, a FilmSoc holiday, a buddy / mentor scheme for freshers and exchange students, screenings for all productions, a “talent pool” of students and alumni, a studio refurb, and many others! Above all, I want the Film Society to be a community driven first and foremost by the needs and wishes of its members.
