This doesn’t only include organising events suitable for all tastes, such as international food nights to bar crawls across London but ensuring Hawkridge is truly a place you’re proud to call home during your studies at UCL.

- Exams and revision periods are incredibly stressful times. Let’s de-stress with visits from support animals.

- Weekly movie nights and installation of Netflix / Entertainment services in the common room.

- Email updates on regular events at Hawkridge

…Just to name a few…!

If you want to talk to me about my campaign, please get in touch:

Thank you,

Sophie Hardie
Hi, my name is Sophie, from the depths of Mordor a.k.a. New Zealand. You may not have seen me around lately - I have been sick for the last two weeks, laying low building up my immune system. But what that means is that when everyone else is under the weather in the wild winter months, I'll be running around ready to help and working to make Hawkridge House a home for all of us. I think I'm a great candidate for Hall Rep because I am a fearless problem-solver - the other day I found a cockroach in my room, so I caught it, put it in a bag and took it down to Kevin. The fact that it turned out to be a cricket does not negate my heroic efforts and you can rest assured that I will be on hand as amateur bug-catcher. Another honorary title I (informally) hold is master event-planner. I am all ears for what form you want our events to take - we could have parties, pool nights, bike rides, movie screenings, or all of these! With me as Hall Rep we can make it happen.
Dining Liu
I always believe I can find joy in helping others to find their joy. I am:
• Warmhearted and open-minded
• A nice listener with great patience and carefulness
• Proactive and fairly approachable
• Experienced in providing student support
○ Worked as an international student representatives during my graduate study in UC Berkeley, I provided advising support on common welfare issues, such as student health insurance plan, housing, and internship, in collaboration with International Office staff.
○ I've gained much benefit for the whole international student group in my department as I acted as the voice of international students suggesting the head of our department to push the process of re-categorizing my major to be a STEM one, which means extending the allowable working years for international students from 1 to 3 years in the U.S.
○ Elected as the bedchamber leader of my dorm during my undergraduate, I was responsible for the security, the hygiene, the supervision, and the culture affairs. Touched by my passion and dedication to our dorm, my roommates really enjoyed their campus life, and we worked together to won the first award in Campus-wide Dorm Decoration Competition.

• With more flexible schedule as a PhD student, I can help you out whenever you feel stuck.
• I really love intercultural exchange and I am proficient in English and Mandarin, so you don’t have to worry about any language or cultural barrier when communicating.

I want to make our hall like our home, chatting and having tasty food and drink together. For this campaign, I prepared free dinner for anyone who would like to join on Saturday night (Oct, 12, 2019). If elected, we could cook different styles of food together, sharing recipes and happiness, pouring out your worry, and enjoying a wonderful night!!!

I am a philosopher by trade, but will keep things simple here. My platform is simple, and can be broken down into five parts.

5-point plank:

1. Practical improvements to our residence: Examples include a plunger in every bathroom, modifying the fans that go on every time you go into the bathroom and kitchen, and implementing more sitting space in the common area.
2. Improve the common area for everyone: this includes getting an HDMI cord to hook computers up to the television, buying a community speaker, getting a vending machine, and other improvements that you all recommend to me.
3. Holding monthly community events: These events will celebrate our diverse community, having a different theme every month. And yes, there will be free alcohol and food for all.
4. Weekly office hours: I will be available every Saturday afternoon in the common room from 5-7 to hear any concerns that you have. I will also have a drop box outside of my flat where you can bring anonymous concerns.
5. Facebook and Social Media Page: I will dedicate a Facebook page to sending out messages about events, taking in anonymous complaints, and generally engaging you, my constituents.
Zhimin Lian
Hello, everyone! I am Zhimin Lian and I am running for the positions of Hawkridge House Hall representative. I believe in putting students who live in halls first as well as getting your voices heard.

I studied in America before, thus I met lots of people from different countries and I know new students what concern about. I had leadership experiences from Coalition of International Students at the University. I have helped in organizing club meetings and events that have created an interactive experience for club members. I participated in community work at The Society of St.Vincent de Paul, Phoenix, U.S.A, where I provided services for young people, introducing the idea of higher education and support some learning skills to help them chase higher education. Additionally, I provided some hospitality services and psychological counselling for autistic children at MEIZHIMU Autism Organisation in China, where I taught them how to communicate with others. I am confident in my teamwork, presentation skills and making sure people's voices are heard.

If elected I would aim to:
• To make sure the accommodation is properly heated and hot water is properly provided.
• To ensure the maintenance staff is efficient to process student requests.

I have some great ideas on how I can improve your experience in accommodation. Thank you for reading my manifesto and feel free to contact me.

Best regards,

Hawa Marguerite Conde
Hi, my name is Hawa. I wish to become your Hawkridge Hall Representative for the 2019-20 academic year.

Hawa, who? I am a MSc Global Health and Development student. I was born in Guinea but lived in several countries growing up. I love green, and enjoy walking, engaging in conversations, travelling, food…

What are my intentions? I hope to provide more opportunities for your concerns/comments/feedback to be heard/represented in decision making. This means making time to hear your comments and finding ways to facilitate the process of sharing them. I also hope to organise some enjoyable events throughout the year (more team games, perhaps?), based on your needs and wants.

Previous experiences? Throughout various job and volunteer positions I got to improve my liaising and communication skills, and event planning.

Why do I care? Because I believe that the one year (or more) we will spend at Hawkridge should be comfortable and pleasant. We came to UCL to learn and I believe that some of that learning will occur in Residence, whether alone in our room or with other students, in the common room. So, I would like to positively contribute to making Hawkridge our “home away from home”.
Estefania San Miguel
A new year of studies, a new house, new friends and, for some, a new city (or even country)!
Being a student comes with a lot of new responsibilities! Therefore, we need a place that is not an extra concern for us, instead a home where we can relax and enjoy our time. So if you choose me as Hall Rep I will make sure that your life within the halls is easier to cope with!

As Hall Rep I commit to:

- Security and wellbeing: I will be the first to make sure that your complaints are answered and resolved in time by our administration. I will also follow up on each one of them so that we can all live peacefully in our home.

- Social activities: My experience working in the Human Resources area of several companies has helped me to know how to organize and encourage this type of activities so that fun and laughter are guaranteed!

- Support: As a psychologist I am, I will provide my support for all those who are going through a bad time. Not only will you have a Hall Rep willing to listen to your complaints, but also a friend to trust!

Vote for Estefania!! You won’t regret it!!!
Adeola Adeoye
Hello Residents of Hawkridge Hall!

What do I want?
I want to REPRESENT YOU, and ADVOCATE for the CHANGES that you want. I have spoken to residents and heard several complaints that I would like to tackle.

What are some issues I would address?
-Lack of heating in the building (both in rooms and with hot water)
-Little communication between the house manager and residents
-Inadequate room information about hall and rooms
-Tier pricing based on room size and amenities (it’s not fair to pay the same price for less space and poorer facilities.
-Improved system for receiving packages
-Lower cost for laundry

What about fun??
So far this year we have been able to develop community through our group chats, but more events and activities would help us ensure a deeper level of community with each other. I hope to be able to put on GAME NIGHTS and CHEAP ACTIVITIES with FREE FOOD!

Am I nice?
YES!! I can be a bit shy but when it comes to standing up for problems I believe in I GO HARD. Feel free to reach out to me anytime to discuss anything else that is important to you!
