Amount of claim

For the years 2013 to 2014, full-time university students with caring responsibilities can claim Childcare Grant of:

  • A maximum of £148.75 per week for one child
  • A maximum of £255 per week for 2 or more children

In the years 2014 to 2015, the amount is scheduled to increase to:

  • A maximum of £150.23 per week for one child
  • A maximum of £257.55 per week for 2 or more children

The amount will be paid in 3 batches (typically at the beginning of the term) during the course of the academic year.

 

 

Eligibility requirements

In order to be eligible for the Childcare Grant, the criteria below must be fulfilled:

  • Being a full time student
  • Your child must be below the age of 15 or 17 (if they have special academic needs) and financially dependent on you
  • You must be eligible for student finance package
  • You are a permanent resident of England
  • The childcare provider is listed in the Ofsted Early Years Register or General Childcare Register

The Childcare Grant cannot be claimed under the following conditions:

  • If you or your partner are already claiming the childcare element of Working Tax Credits or the childcare element of Universal Credit
  • If your relative or partner is taking care of your child at the child’s home (although your relative or partner might be a registered childminder)
  • To cover the free childcare including the one which every 3 and 4 year olds is already eligible to receive (up to 15 hours per week)
