Summer’s here, and it’s time to get volunteering! 

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be putting a selection of our active summer roles on this page. If you want to see what sort of exciting opportunities you can get involved with - other than the roles listed below - check out our 500+ vacancies on our directory!

Active Roles

IntoUniversity
Student Mentor

 

IntoUniversity provides local learning centres where young people are inspired to achieve. Volunteering with us offers experience working with young people, access to high quality training and on-going support from our enthusiastic staff team. Volunteers make a measurable impact on the young people we work with and act as a real force for change in their local communities. We’re looking for students to volunteer as mentors for young people between 10-17. You’ll help them achieve their full potential by giving them one-to-one-support, and meeting your Mentee for at least five sessions.

Time Commitment: 1 hour per week
Location: Various across London

Wild East Project
Project Volunteer

Our Wild East project connects people all ages with the hidden nature and history of two well-loved green spaces in East London.

Volunteers engage with families and community groups in a variety of outdoor activities; they will use their creativity to find new ways to engage with the public and will support individual and small groups in discovering wildlife, habitats and the history of these two remarkable places.

Time Commitment: Sessions take place all-year –round on weekdays and weekends and last approximately 3 hours

Hestia Housing and Support
Summer Play Scheme Assistant

We are looking for a passionate and committed volunteer to support our children and family worker’s, to provide daily activities and outings in the refuge over the summer holidays. We are also looking for volunteers to facilitate the following sessions:

Sports, Art, Drama, Dance, Cooking/Baking and Music/Singing

Time Commitment: Available any time Mon- Fri during the summer holidays

Wheels for Wellbeing
Session Cycling Volunteer

Working as a session cycling volunteer for Wheels for Wellbeing, an inclusive cycling charity, is a great way to support people with disabilities who come to our inclusive cycling sessions. As a volunteer you’ll have a chance to see the whole fleet of our adopted cycles for people with different disabilities. You’ll learn basic bike mechanics and adapting bikes for different needs. You’ll also be able to interact with people from different backgrounds and work in a vibrant environment of avid cyclists.

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week

Location: Croydon, Herne Hill, or Ladywell

Coin Street Community Builders
Make It Happen - Summer Volunteer

We are looking for friendly, pro-active and engaging volunteers to support our new creative programme for young people this summer. Make a difference to the often challenging lives of inner-city children and young people by providing opportunities for them to ‘make it’ happen this summer with workshops in cooking, branding, fashion, drama and music production. All volunteers working with children and young people must provide 2 references, be wiling to complete a DBS check and safeguarding training.

Time Commitment: The programme runs from Monday 23 July to Friday 16 August, 17:00-19:00 on weekday evenings.

CARAS
Summer Trip Volunteer

Throughout the year CARAS offers educational, practical and recreational support for young people, majority of whom are Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children. Holidays can be very isolating for newly arrived young people, due to many activities and school stopping and limited access to other activities. With CARAS Summer Holiday Programme, we aim to provide fun, engaging, day trips for whole group as well as a three day residential trip to Hindleap Warren Centre.

As a CARAS Summer Holiday Programme volunteer you will help to run summer activities for young refugees and asylum seekers.

Time Commitment: At least one day per week.

Markfield Project
Open Access Volunteer

Come and play!

Every Saturday the adventure playground at our community centre for disabled people hosts children and young people and their families to in a range of inclusive play opportunities, from zipping down the zip wire, making dens, trying out our cycle rickshaw (hard work) or toasting marshmallows on the bonfire. We need volunteers to help make sessions friendly, fun safe.

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week on Saturdays

Surrey Docks Farm
Livestock Volunteer

Paul the chicken, out on the yard

Surrey Docks Farm is a working farm that rears a range of livestock to demonstrate where our food comes from. Produce from the animals, including meat and eggs is sold through the farm shop when available. Livestock volunteers (aged 14 +) assist with all aspects of animal care. Daily duties include helping with feeding, mucking out enclosures, sweeping the yard and paths, collecting eggs, exercising and putting the animals away at night. 

Time Commitment: Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Livestock volunteers need to commit to a set morning (09:00-13:00) or full day (09:00-17:00) attending on a weekly basis for a minimum of three months.

One-Off Opportunities One-Off Opportunities

Age UK Kensington and Chelsea 
Walking Group

We actively combat loneliness by connecting isolated older people with their community and supporting them to join group activities. We would like volunteers to join us on our walks, and offer support. 

When: Friday 27 July, 3, 31 August and 7 September from 10:15 to 15:00.

RSBC
Ride London Cheer Squad

The epic Ride London 100 has a team of 18 cyclists taking part just for RSBC. Bring your loudest voice and join in the fun, on your own or with friends, whilst supporting our amazing cyclists at our noisy cheer-points as they go past!

When: Sunday 29 July, and cheerers can choose morning shifts running from 09:00-13:00, or afternoon shifts running from 13:00-17:00. 

Where: Wimbledon (AM shift) and/or The Mall (PM shift)

Canal & River Trust
Towpath Taskforce - Haggerston

Want to improve your local waterway? Join the Canal & River trust on our Towpath Taskforce events on London’s beautiful canals. We help to clean up and improve the waterways for the community to enjoy. Join us for a fun and productive day to help your community and the environment.

When: Wednesday 25 July, 10:00 to 15:30.

Where: Kingsland Towpath accessed by Whitmore Road Bridge in Haggerston.

Cardinal Hume Centre                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Children and Families Summer Programme 2018! 
 

The Cardinal Hume Centre, a charity in Victoria working to alleviate homelessness and poverty, are running a Kids Summer Club this August.  There will be planned activities around a Science and Technology theme and an outing. Volunteers engage and support the children, 5 – 13 years of age, and help them to have fun!

Anna Fiorentini Theatre and Film School
Musical Theatre Summer School

We are looking for friendly, reliable and patient volunteers to support our team of professionals at our summer schools. We are offering three different, week-long programmes for children aged seven to sixteen years old. In our courses, students make a musical in week: they will learn songs and dance routines from well-known films and West End shows, creating a show that they will perform to family and friends at the end of the course. 

When & Where: For the first two weeks (23 - 27 July and 30 July - 3 August), we’re based at Chobham Academy. In week three (20 – 24 August) we’re at Princess May. Classes are on all day, from 09:30 to 16:00. We are particularly keen to hear from volunteers who are able to commit to at least three days in any one week, but please do also get in touch if your availability is less, as we can be quite flexible.
