On Thursday 30 May 2019, about 300 students and staff celebrated yet another year of outstanding achievement at the annual Sports Ball and Awards, held at Porchester Hall.

Like every year, this event celebrates the achievements of Team UCL’s sports clubs and sportsmen and women, as well as the members of staff who together, have contributed to make for another extremely successful year of sport here at UCL!

The evening itself was a great success. As students entered the venue, they were greeted by the friendly faces of the staff that have been dedicated to supporting their success throughout the year. In spite of the multiple photo ops on offer (did someone say photo booth?!), it wasn’t long before everyone was seated and the awards ceremony was underway.

As the nominees for each individual and club awards were read out the hall filled with cheer.

The admiration and camaraderie shared between the students of TeamUCL was clear for all to see and embodies the spirit that has placed UCL 29th in the BUCS league table this year.

The winners on the evening were:

Club of the Year – Hockey Club (Womens)

Sportswoman of the Year – Caiti Maxwell (Fencing Club)

Sportsman of the Year – Adam Everett (Taekwondo Club)

Captain of the Year – Minerva Martinez (Taekwondo Club)

Mandy Walker Cup for Sports Personality of the Year – Jessica Reddy

Friend’s Cup for Performance Club or Team – Taekwondo Club

Diversity and Inclusion Award – Fencing Club

Volunteering Sports Club of the Year – Football (Women’s)

The Shield for Most Improved Club or Team – Basketball Club (Men’s)

Whilst Team UCL congratulates our worthy awards winners, as always we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that has been involved with sport this academic year. We hope that you all enjoyed your evening.

And believe it or not, these weren’t the only winners! We also gave our colours awards to individuals who have made significant contributions to the TeamUCL community during their time here. Check the Roll of Honour to see who got a nod.

Overall, it’s been a great year and we cannot wait for the next!
