We are looking for new sports teams, so why not set one up yourself and participate with your friends and course mates. If you are already part of a team or need help setting one up, we are here to help.

Whatever your sport please get in touch and take a look at our School of Pharmacy Football team’s case study below.

The School of Pharmacy Men’s Football Club is a departmental team that started just a year ago, and the club is made up of players studying Pharmacy at UCL. They started having friendlies against other UCL football clubs and have now entered the London Universities Sports League (LUSL) where they meet other London based University clubs.

The team now train every Monday between 7–8:30pm at nearby Coram’s Fields, where they enjoy preparing for matches which take place on Wednesday afternoons.

We asked Captain and (occasional) goal scorer, Emmanuel Mensah his views on setting up a team and playing for his department:

Playing within the pharmacy department has helped bridge some gaps between the different year groups. With players from first year all the way to the PhD department, the football club is like a big family and the relationships we build on the pitch often translates to academic and other support off the pitch.

I would recommend starting a departmental sports team. It brings a good dynamic between members of the same department that may have not previously existed, it also helps form good relationships with people in your department, in addition to the physical benefits. Take advantage of Student Union UCL’s support in setting one up!

For the 2nd year running SOP FC took part in the BBC’s FA People’s Cup, England’s largest and most inclusive small-sided competition. The guys put in a spirited performance and were unfortunate not to progress after defeat in the final.

If you are interested in setting up a departmental sports team, please contact Neil Jolliffe our Sports Development Coordinator who will be able to help and support you through the process.
